But between these two points there is a critical phase: building the production system that makes reliable serial manufacturing possible.

Start with the production requirements
Before designing a production environment, the manufacturing requirements need to be understood.
This includes the product itself, expected volumes, manufacturing processes, quality requirements, testing, logistics and future capacity needs.
These requirements create the foundation for the manufacturing concept.
The question is not simply:
How much production space is available?
The more important question is:
What does this production process need in order to operate reliably?
Design the production system
Once the requirements are understood, the production environment can be planned.
Depending on the project, this can include:
Each element influences the others.
The location of a workstation affects material movement. Material movement affects internal logistics. Production volume influences storage and capacity requirements. Testing requirements influence both layout and process design.
This is why production transfer is not simply about finding available floor space.
It is about designing a functioning manufacturing system.
Build the production environment
Once the production concept has been defined, the physical environment can be developed.
An empty industrial space gradually becomes a production area.
Infrastructure is installed. Workstations and equipment are positioned. Storage locations are created. Material routes are defined. Quality and testing requirements are integrated into the process.
The physical transformation can be significant.
But the building itself is only the shell.
The real objective is to create an environment in which people, materials, equipment and information can move through the production process reliably.
Validate before serial production
Building the production environment does not automatically mean that the process is ready for serial production.
The manufacturing process needs to be tested and stabilized.
During ramp-up, production parameters can be validated, work instructions refined, quality controls confirmed and operational issues identified before full serial volumes are reached.
This phase reduces risk when the project moves into SOP.
From industrial space to manufacturing system
The before-and-after photographs from one of our Synermont production areas show the visible part of this development.
What started as an industrial space became an operating manufacturing environment with dedicated workstations, storage, material routes, equipment and production activities.
But the most important transformation is not visible in the building itself.
It is the production system behind it.
Good contract manufacturing starts before production
A contract manufacturing partner should therefore be evaluated not only by available capacity or unit price.
The ability to understand a manufacturing requirement, develop the necessary production environment and manage the transition from planning through ramp-up to serial production can be equally important.
